Got to the trail head at 7AM and there were already a dozen cars, surprising given it’s a Monday and a lot of snow the last 1.5 miles. The new trail was fine until we hit snow. We put on our spikes which definitely were needed. As soon as we hit the last trees before ending just under the summit, the wind was howling. Blowing snow and ice at times, making the last several hundred feet of elevation a challenge. My Rainier was in full view however making it worthwhile!
