My dog, Maggie May, and I hiked this gorgeous, challenging trail on Saturday, Sept. 25. I have been so eager to start the Six-Pack of Peaks challenge, but life kept happening. Car problems. Pandemic-related issues. Finally getting to travel home (out of state). So I was super excited to finally start the challenge.
We started about 1:30 p.m. (I am not great at mornings), and it was probably about 75 degrees. Cloudy sky. Trail was in the shade for a lot of the way. It was pretty chilly at the top (in part because I was drenched in sweat), but man, this trail provides some of the most stunning views. If it hadn't been for the wildfire smoke, the views would have been even better, but we could still see the whole Antelope Valley side, which like holy moley thank ya Jesus, what a view.
I thought it'd be busier, but I only saw 20ish people the whole time. I knew sunset was at 6:45 p.m., so we farted around at the summit for a bit and then headed down. We had the pleasure of seeing two chipmunks and heard several more. I love how if you're quiet enough, you can hear them chirping about. Also saw some gray squirrels and various birds. Just an overall super gorgeous day!
Oh, and one quick note: Skip the little spring hike. That trail is sketchy AF, and it's leads to just a puddle of water. Best to not risk falling off the mountain.
P.S. I left some orange Gu chews for the next person. FYI: they're vegan! 🙂
