The weather was perfect. We started at 7:00 with a temp of 55 and by the time we reached the summit it was mid to upper 60’s.
We encountered ice patches a mile or so before we reached Icehouse Saddleback and snow was on north facing slopes. After leaving Saddleback the snow got sticky and was covering the trail. We decided to don our microspikes and use trekking poles to help with the accent. I feel they made the trip much more easier. I did see a few folk hiking in tennis shoe, but wouldn’t advise.
We took our time and did the round trip in 10 hours. Not a whole lot of wild life out except birds and a chipmunk.
The views were phenomenal!!!
