This is a great trail head from which to hike mission peak. You park in the multi level garage at ohlone college which is practically empty because of distance learning. I think it’s $4 and the machine takes cards out cash. There are a couple clean porto potties at the trail head.
The initial ascent is up past some cattle gates and through some grazing cattle. We kept our distance and had no issues.
I understand this route to be more gradual than the Stanford route but it was plenty steep and challenging for me. Unfortunately I forgot my poles which no doubt made it worse. After a couple stops to catch my breathe and have a snack we made it to the top. There were about a dozen people up there taking pictures and enjoying the views.
There were a few lupine, poppies and other wild flowers. The views were amazing although slightly hazy. We could see Diablo, Tam, Umunhum, the SF skyline and the Oakland skyline.
There is a potty about 1 or 2 miles from the top. So that’s convenient.
