Lovely, sunny day, perfect weather for hiking Mission Peak, my second time to summit here. Started from Sunol as soon as the gates opened, very light trail traffic from this trailhead. Encountered several friendly cows, colorful peacocks and other critters along the way. The hills were a lovely green and there was a variety of wildflowers in bloom. Trail had lots of mud as the week before had been quite rainy. On our way down we missed a turn and, although the map appeared to indicate a simple loop back to our course, it ended up being quite an adventure involving a creek crossing and navigating a meadow and a fence to get back on track. Made it back to Sunol in time to check out the wildflower festival that was in full swing. 10.7 miles total, 2,392 feet elevation gain.
