Strenuous, but very rewarding trek through a part of Henry Coe State Park. We have a large group (25) of dedicated hikers, many of us well over 50 years old. The weather conditions were ideal; high 60s, low humidity, overcast, and occasional cool breezes. There are two killer ascents: 1) the “Short Cut” of 1.5 miles climbing 1,500 feet (grades up to 25%+) on a fire road, and 2) a less steep, but still long, slog near the end on a better shaded road. Plenty of single-track trails. Lots of wildflowers. Multiple stream crossings, all pretty easy. One of the hardest hikes in the Bay Area. An epic adventure!
