First hike of the six-pack of peaks challenge and my first high elevation hike. At one point I did feel a bit lightheaded after a few switchbacks, but I just drank more water/Gatorade, ate some trail mix and made my way up. Snow blocked one portion of the trail, but if you turn around and keep walking, other hikers made an alternative trail, so you don’t have to climb up the steep hill if you don’t want to. Everyone had trekking poles on this hike, which came handy if you did want to go that way up. Long switchbacks all the way to the top. There were a few scenic points with benches to take breaks. Pack a lunch and enjoy your meal at the top! If you go past the flag, there’s a shaded area with a big log you can sit on to enjoy the view. Overall, I didn’t think this hike was “hard.” It was just a bit long/tiring. If anything, the very first part of the trail was the hardest because it felt like it was the steepest As long as you pace yourself, use trekking poles, keep hydrated, and have snacks, then you should be good to go!
