Only once in three attempts the last two years that our group made it to the top during winter. So we did this hike in the middle of summer and what a difference hiking without the snow makes. Without the snow, this trail has one of the best if not the best track among Southern California’s high elevation trails. The packed ground soil without the bothersome loose rocks common in other trails makes the track easy on both feet and knees. The infamous 40+ switchbacks plus the 360-degree views at the summit make this a challenging but rewarding high elevation hike.
