Lots of first for me on this trail, definitely a good challenge. Started out with a water crossing, and easy enough trail. Further along it turned muddy, snow and ice in some areas. We decided to detour off to see Champney falls, hearing the loud roaring water was calling us in. It was beautiful to see the multiple falls. Some were still iced over with water rushing out underneath the ice. This led us to the first ice covered climb on the trail. And a first for me. Steps going up were covered in thick ice. Definitely glad we had our spikes on!

Weather was mild at lower elevations, periods of cold rain, some mixed with snow. Higher elevations wind picked up a bit, and turned more to snow. Then would clear up. The thick fog close to summit was a new experience, standing on the top of the boulders and not seeing anything but little peaks of tree tops.
After a good scramble we thought we were at summit. Nope, first false summit for me … ugh. But we kept going and made it to the summit.

Overall this was a great experience, awesome hike. Definitely thinking of going again when weather is a bit better. Sure there are amazing views at summit on a clear day.
