Beautiful day for a hike. Temperature in the high 70s. Started at the Gould trailhead and proceeded t0 the junction with the AT and then to the summit. I was passed by one 20-something couple on the way up. I brought water and needed it for the hike. The nice thing about Greylock is the Bascom Lodge. I grabbed a sandwich, candy bar, and a beer at the summit, so I had enough energy for the descent via Bellows Pipe. On the descent, I took a detour to an outlook at the south end of Ragged Mountain and had a nice view of the Greylock summit. Returned to the Gould trailhead via Bellows Pipe. Passed about 7 hikers on the descent prior to the detour to Ragged Mountain. A few muddy spots on the trails – easily navigable. About 6 to 7 miles, with about 2,000 feet of gain.
