My friend and I drove to Robert Louis Stevenson trailhead in northern Napa Valley. Nearing the trailhead the road does a lot of climbing. It would be easy to drive right past because it is just a small parking area. Be careful crossing this busy street. The cars drive fast and are difficult to see because they are hidden by a hill. The trail was in great condition. We saw humming birds in the blooming mesquite bushes. The views were generally great but the clouds rolled in and out. We saw several towns which we think were Santa Rosa and Lakeport and ??. There were a lot of trees lost in last year's fires but tiny new pines were beginning to sprout.
The Rombauer winery was right on the road back so we stopped for a glass of wine and some retail shopping. Although the winery was completely surrounded by the fires the firefighters saved the building and the beautiful gardens. The tasting was full and you need a reservation but perhaps because i'm a wine club member they let us order and shop. Yay.
