Had the most amazing day finally summiting Mount Saint Helens on attempt #4. The weather was perfect. The trail conditions were a bit tricky — icy and crunchy — making for some pretty slow climbing. We slept in the parking lot and hit the trail at 12:30 a.m., making it to the summit just in time for sunrise. The bad news is that I managed to break my fibula and tear my anterior talofibular ligament while glissading down. Both required surgery. It's been nearly five weeks and I'll be starting physical therapy next week. Nothing can stop me from climbing!
A million thanks to my climbing partner, fellow goofball, and all-around amazing gal Trixie, for making sure I made it safely down the mountain, and another million thanks to the amazing volunteers at Volcano Rescue Team for rescuing me!
MSH, I will be back.

Dang, just read your trip repot – sorry that happened! Hope you’re on the mend & making a speedy recovery.
Many thanks, Ian. It’s been nine weeks since the accident. I had surgery to repair my ankle and detached ligament, and after weeks in a cast and boot I am finally back on my feet! I have several weeks of PT coming up, but I’m going small hikes again. I can’t wait to get back on the mountains this summer!
