Third Peak down: Mt Tamalpais! I recruited a friend to join me on this hike for three goals: my third Six Pack peak; my 51st Nifty Ninety peak; and some crazy geocaching puzzles near the top. We parked in the northeast on Phoenix Road, getting a late start around 10:30am. We started west from there, picking up Pilot's Knob (#51 on the Nifty 90 list at 1187′) before turning towards the East Peak. We stopped along the way to pick up some of the crazy puzzle caches, each of which required a lot of bushwhacking, but ended up with some of the most amazing views of the day. Eventually we wound our way to the peak, joining the hoards (not *too* crowded on this semi-workday) that had parked at the top. We paused for lots of great pictures, then returned down the east fire road which is *steep* down down down. Got back to the car as the sun was coming down. It was a cool breezy day all day, which was good to keep from overheating. In the end it was about 11 miles and 4000′ in elevation gained given the bonus Pilot climb. Leaving lots of photos from a variety of vantage points. Three down three to go!
Included pictures show Pilot's Knob from Mt Tam, Mt Tam from Pilot's Knob, and a sunset picture of nearby Bald Hill.
