Its fortunate to start my hike challenge on that week not because Mount Wilson is start of the six pack peak, rather I started my hike during a time where California received the largest snow fall and only the trail would eventually be covered in snow the next week.

I started my solo hike around at 8am at the entrance gate of the Mount Wilson trail. The trails were clear and the weather was suitable for February temperature of the Los Angeles County. Given it was my first hike of the challenge I didn't feel intimidate of the distances. I run marathons and hike national parks on road trips. However, my mistake on this hike was packing light food (2 granola bars) and a heavy jacket. While the granola bar and jacket helped as I the elevation increased I started to notice the others hikers having less clothes for the winter and packed foods on the stops to rest.

I did feel joy once I got to the summit, but hunger started to kick in fast. Now before I left, I did check google maps about a cafe shop at the summit where the hours said open, but as I approached the cafe it was closed up. What should have been a good start of this challenge suddenly became a hike of pain. Too humiliate to ask passing hikers for a scrap of food, I suddenly felt a new challenge: hike back down fast with an empty stomach until i reach the near fast food. Let this be a lesson to every hiker, just because the google maps says it there's water resource or a food stop, pack some food. Better safe than sorry.

Overall the hike was a great start and learned new lessons on my six peak challenge.

One summit down, five more to go.
