Great Day for the hike, although being President's Day Weekend, the trail was kinda busy. Weather was great – 7:15 am start and mid-50's through summit at noon and low 40's. Since this is the historic route, I did a little reading before setting out and was happy I did! Used ~ 2.5l of a 3l water supply – helped avoid a side trip to the First Water stream. Many stops to take pictures and shoot video, but all told it was a 5 hr 48 minute of movement hike, with 5007 feet of elevation gain (some ups and downs to shoot images added the extra few feet). Well worth the energy to do this trail – be prepared for the section from Orchard Camp to Manzanita Ridge, which is steep and mostly loose underfoot.
