We started off strong from the Pine Martin lift area and it was a beautiful day for it.

The beginning of the trail was pretty much immediately up hill for quite a ways, but in good condition and somewhat forested. We quickly ran into issues with finding our trail, as there were many intersecting trails and not many signs to point us in the right direction. Three things to our advantage: our maps on our phones, excellent cell service, and the fact that the mountain itself was literally right there! We just had to figure out which trail to stay on and had to keep checking our phones often to make sure we hadn't taken a wrong turn.

On this mountain, there are many trails that all eventually lead up, but we learned the hard way that some of those trails are harder than others. Once you get up above the treeline it's very rocky and the majority of the views the rest of the way up are chairlifts, heavy equipment, and bare ski runs. Some of it is spent walking up rocked service roads as well, so Bachelor feels more industrial than being out in nature in my opinion.

Closer to the top where we began our climb to the summit, whole rocks! Lots and lots of rocks, and then more rocks. It was challenging and required concentration for every step, but still very doable on the way up. I can't say the same for the way back down. Trying to climb down was treacherous and I bit nerve wrecking, as it was easy to slide.

We finally made it to the top, and we were so proud of ourselves! Again, Mt Bachelor itself is not really a “pretty” mountain. There's another lift at the top and it's pretty obvious that the rock up there has been moved around quite a bit, so the top kind of just looked like a rock quarry. But the views of the other mountains were truly beautiful!

This another one-and-done mountain for me. I'm really glad to be able to say I've done it, but I don't have a huge desire to do it again unless I'm going just to support other hikers.

What I love most is that I see Bachelor on my daily commutes, and I get to say, “I've stood on top of that mountain!”
