The first of my 2021 Six Pack of Peaks, I started this trail very overconfident and was soon humbled by the elevation gain. Although I am not new to hiking, I am new to bagging peaks and hiking longer/steeper trails. This was a very good introduction as the first two thirds of the trail were pleasant, with amazing views and the occasional fell tree blocking the path. The last third, however, was very difficult as I started to run out of gas at that point and had to focus on the trail instead of the views. Snow covered almost the entire trail after the first mile, with steep drops almost necessitating the use of spikes and/or poles. The last set of switchbacks are in the midst of deep snow, so staying on the path was difficult at times. The peak was amazing, with awesome 360 degree views. Make sure to be prepared for the high winds at the peak as they seem to come out of nowhere and cause the temperature to drop a lot.
