My first training hike for Mt. Whitney. My group of 4 hiked it as a loop traveling clockwise starting from Manker Flats Trailhead, up the steep Baldy Bowl trail to the summit. Very challenging. The return trip was down Devils Backbone to Baldy Notch. My friend was suffering from pretty severe leg cramps so instead of taking the fire road back to the trailhead, we had lunch at the Top of the Notch Restaurant and rode the ski life down. Expensive but fun detour.
