Went CCW starting at 9am. It was a little chilly to start, but overall a beautiful day. The way up is a tale of two trails. The first half is on a street that leads to a fire road up to the ski lodge at a easy incline. From there it changes to a single track that gets steeper leading to the devil’s backbone trail. Great views on this section leading up to the peak. One bummer was no sign at the top, so no obligatory photo with the view in the background. There is just the plaque in the ground. The way down is about a mile shorter and pretty steep switchback down the bowls. I was definitely glad to have hiking poles. If you can afford to take your time with the inclines your rewarded with spectacular views. I was on a pretty tight schedule and only had 6 hrs to complete it so I had to spend a lot of my time on trail with my head down watching my footing and it definitely kicked my butt.
