Arrived at 4:55am and started trek at 5:48am bc we knew it was going to be a hot day.
The hike to Notch was relaxing and a few trail runners and sunrise summit folks were already coming down. Slight breeze at the top of Turkey Shoot but the sun was warm on our backs now. Felt really good at this point and was glad Mitch was down with leaving early in the am. I had been up this trail so many times before but this time it counted for the six pack challenge. It felt different, but in a good way.
The hike up Devils Backbone and thru the tree line was very calming and only 2 people I was ping ponging with were well behind at this point.
The final push to the summit felt great and my heart rate hit about 135 max the whole way up. Mitch waited for me near the top so we could summit together at the benchmark.
Based on his smile, I knew it was a great hike for him as well. The summit was not very crowded when we arrived. Visibility was a 7 out 10.
We chatted a whole bunch on the way down and the time passed very quickly for me.
The last 25 minutes we had that brutal sun beaming down on us and we knew the early start was the correct choice. The beer at the notch went down fast!
One down and 5 to go!
