I attempted to Summit Mt Baldy two weeks ago on a Friday. I thought giving the Old Baldy Trail a try wouldn’t be bad. I left my car at 7am, hiked 10.4 miles, and never saw a soul. I was hiking alone, and when I hit the long traverse to the summit and had wind and steep drops, I knew it was best to turn around.
So, today I took the path more traveled. I started at Manker Flats at 5:50am by the full moon. I made it to the summit and down again in 5:01. The summit was very windy and cold so I didn’t stay long.
Coming down had me worried as it is steep and slippery, but it wasn’t as bad as I anticipated.
Overall, it was a pretty easy hike, but I think it’s because compared to my failed attempt, it really was a breeze!
