Four down, two to go! Returned four days to hike Mt Baldy after summiting Cucamonga Peak via Icehouse Canyon.
We arrived at about 6:30 am on a Sunday and parked at Manker Flat near the campground with parking already close to full.
We chose to hike the “loop” to the summit via the access road to Baldy Notch and Devils Backbone with our descent coming down the Ski Hut/ Baldy Bowl trail.
We had not hiked Baldy before so this was new for us and I’m glad we chose this route and not the shorter but much more difficult Ski Hut/ Bowl route (which is very intense climbing 90% of the ascent).
The day was beautiful, warm and sunny with a nice breeze at the summit and not strong wind which I hear happens often.
Finding the trail on the descent was challenging at times as there were multiple routes. Follow the yellow tip poles to help stay on track.
It took us about 8.5 hours round trip including about an hour of breaks along the way and at the summit.
