Today was the only day available in my schedule to attempt Mt Batchelor and finish my sixth peak. I drove from the coast and was there early so we could be in an area to watch the annular eclipse. You could see the top of Batchelor when we started. As we gained elevation we realized we were not prepared for the snow like we thought we were. It was difficult to find the trail and cooler temperatures kept us from making it to the peak. We got to 8,015 feet (we did 1,929 ft elevations gain). We were tired and cold so we called it a day. By the time we had turned around the peak was covered in clouds and you could see the chair lift disappear into the clouds.
The sky was cloudy during the eclipse and the eclipse glasses were useless with the cloud cover, but we were able to see the eclipse through the clouds. We were not able to get a good shot with the phone because it was too bright.
The day did not go as planned, but Oregon did not disappoint. We got to see the eclipse and enjoy a beautiful snowy hike.
Next year I will go earlier in the season and make it to the top.
