Hiked Mt Diablo yesterday. I did the loop starting on Mitchell Canyon Road, then took Deer Flat road and Juniper trail to the summit. After the summit I descended on the North Peak Trail and Bald Ridge Trail. I meant to go on the Back Creek Trail but ended up on the Eagle Peak Trail. After the summit of Eagle Peak I decided to backtrack and go down the Back Creek Trail after all. So it ended up being about a 16 mile hike, which took me 7 hours. It was a hot day, but I was thankful that the weather was only in the 80's and not in the 90's or 100's like last week.
Notes on the trail: the trail markers can be confusing so definitely bring a map. Also, all of the trails were in good condition except for the upper part of the Back Creek Trail, which was very eroded and hard to walk on. I wish I would have had trekking poles for the downhill parts.
If I did this again I would ascend the Back Creek or Eagle Peak trail, and descend on Mitchell Canyon Road.
