Mt. Elden is another peak I last visited more than 30 years ago, and I was glad to return. Hiking the entire Fatman’s Loop was a great suggestion, and I enjoyed navigating through the rocks. The switchbacks up the east side of the mountain provided ever-expanding and improving views all of the way to the summit. After soaking in the vistas, I found a spot among some aspens that was sheltered from the strong winds, savoring some time on top before reluctantly heading down.
The trail is well-maintained. The day was clear, but warmer (70s, 80s), and gusting breezes made for comfortable hiking conditions. The parking lot was fairly full, but all hikers were able to find a spot.
