I hiked the Elden Lookout Trail for the first time this year. The trailhead is temporarily located at the Coconino National Forest Ranger Station on AZ State Hwy 89A, across from Safeway. Parking is also temporarily at this location while the existing TH and parking lot are being improved. The weather overall was great; mostly clear skies, with light winds down low, increasing with elevation, especially near the summit. At the summit, on the west side, the wind was howling. A strong gust nearly knocked me off balance at one point. Visibility was very good, except to the south, due to a large Prescribed burn fire. I felt good during the hike. The elevation did not hamper me as I thought it might. The only issuer I experienced was some pain in my left foot, similar to a sprained ankle, although I don’t recall spraining it. this was most problematic during the descent from the summit to the parking lot.
