Mt Elbert was my second fourteener ever and it has been years since I've been back. Funnily enough Mt Massive and La Plata which sit on either side of the behemoth are two of my favorite hikes in Colorado. My recall on Elbert was very long with tons of false summits. Participating in the Rockies challenges encouraged my revisiting this today where I wound up one of the Highest men in the continental US.
With 200 climbs under my belt since my last visit the climb today was allot more fun. I guess it's improved fitness, better shoes, better packs etc etc . Today heading up from the half empty Mt Elbert TH carpark at 5:30 and was back by 10:30 for 5hr return. I am certain that is better than my previous effort which seemed like 3 or 4 days rt. The trail was in excellent condition. There were millions of peoples on the hill with some grimacing going on and the car park when I got back was ridiculously packed out
Anyway shoutout to 14ers.org as they had 4 simultaneous projects running on these guys are so awesome. #adventureneers #14ers #doesanyonereadthis
