My first summit up San Bernardino Mtn! After mile five, we could not see the trail, so we took a different approach and traversed straight up the mountain (versus taking the switchbacks). It was a mental challenge dealing with the altitude (I get nauseous) and the deep snow. We started out with microspikes before switching to crampons. It took all my effort to do a jack jump at the peak. I kept slipping and sliding on my a$$ due to the ice on the way down (ice-rash!). We had one in our group that sunk her leg into the snow up to her hip, her crampons caught on a branch buried deep in the snow, and it took a bit to pull her out.
It was sad to see the devastation from the El Dorado fire in 2020 that was ignited by a family celebrating a gender reveal. So much of the terrain was destroyed, many structures destroyed, and one firefighter died.
