This is our (@hound-of-mt-sizer and me) fifth hike and was my favorite peak yet! It reminded me of hiking in the high Sierras. <3 We arrived at the trailhead and got started around 8:30am. The beginning is beautiful and shaded, and the rocky trail makes for some fun scrambling. You reach the book monument to RLS pretty quickly, and I kind of wanted to just stick around there to play and climb, but we continued upward. After the first 2 miles, the trail opens up into a fire road which is exposed to the sun at midday, but in the morning when we were hiking was still fairly shaded. Some have complained that this road is boring, but I say that the views make it anything but! It took us about 3 hours, all told, to reach the top where we had lunch and took photos. It took us about an hour and a half to follow the same trail back down. The road was warmer now, but still not too bad if you have a good hat. We saw a few climbers on the way, far more on the way back down than we met on the way up. I would definitely do this one again!
