The year is coming to a close, so we knew that we’d be doing this hike rain or shine to complete the challenge. The day’s precipitation ranged from mist to light/moderate steady rain. Thankfully never a downpour. Despite being wet, the trail and fire road were fine – not slick, and rocky enough that it was never muddy. Temp was 46º according to Strava. Upper body stayed pretty dry (other than some rain coming in when I had my jacket unzipped to keep from overheating) but pants and gloves were soaked through. Hands were very cold but I was otherwise reasonably comfortable.
This is one of the easier hikes in the Bay Area Six Pack at 10-11 miles and ~2900 feet of ascent (this is higher than the hike report I read, not sure if it’s a watch / Strava error) but the rainy weather made it a bit of a tough end of the challenge. It was nice to warm up in Calistoga over some excellent wines!
I’m so glad we did the Six Pack of Peaks Challenge! We visited some peaks we would not have seen and did tougher hikes than we would have otherwise. It’s a great way to get out and see the area and push yourself! Looking forward to more Bay Area hikes.
