To beat the summer heat we started the day at the trailhead around 6:00am and took to the mountain right away. Taking the front route to the ski hut was a rude awakening considering the elevation gain of ~3,600′ over 3.5-4 miles to the peak. Be prepared for lots of short switchbacks and at times straight up the Mt. The view from the summit is as beautiful as you can image; we took a long break to have lunch and enjoy the view. On the way back we took the Devil's Backbone trail to the ski resort. Warning ⚠️ it gets very windy up there so make sure to take your time coming down and be safe. Total hiking time was 4.5 hrs and we clocked 7.7 miles using the Fenix 5X. We avoided the boring fire road back to the car by taking the ski lift back, something you don't get to do in every hike. Have fun and enjoy the San Antonio peak!
