Fantastic hike with amazing views at the summit!! Started from Stinson Beach, with a steady climb up Dipsea Trail to Steep Ravine, Pantoll Campground and Bootjack Campground (both with clean restrooms and water refill stations). From there, we took Matt Davis, and somewhere at the intersection between Matt Davis and Hogback Road, I lost my beloved travel water bottle (only sentimental because it had all my hiking and out of country travel stickers) after a stumble and tumble on the ground carelessly tripping over a rock. I hadn’t noticed my missing water bottle for several miles later. By then, the fog had cleared and the sun was shining as my group trekked up Hoo Koo E Koo to Vic Haun, Verna Dunshee and Plank Walk to the summit (if you’re crazy and adventurous enough, you can try the Tam scramble to the summit, but it looked like another injury risk waiting to happen, so we decided to pass on the shortcut scramble). We enjoyed our packed lunch and the gorgeous views of the Bay Area from the Mt Tam lookout. On the way back, we took Fern Trail to Railroad Grade Fireroad back to Matt Davis to loop back to retrace our steps. My group passed the area where I fell, and lo and behold, my previous bottle was there lying amongst the grass/weeds. Was sooo happy to recover it! Had an amazing time and took the endless stairs back down Matt Davis (to make a loop) and return to Stinson Beach! Gorgeous hike but definitely plan for an all day trek with this one!
