This is a pretty hike, but would recommend going up the steep side first thru Fern Creek.  I do not like large loose rocks to climb thru on the downhill thru ferncreek, was hard on my feet and knees.  Fern creek is absolutely stunning!    Our hike started off by the firestation, we parked behind it on Gravity car road. NO bathrooms here, but you can walk down to the Mountain home inn and bathrooms are at the parking lot.  The uphill was easy on this side, wasn't steep but you go up for 4.5 miles.   Beautiful forest, felt surreal.

Amazing views at the top, there are bathrooms at the visitor center that are nice and clean.
