I flew in from SoCal to SJC early morning Friday, January 10. I stopped at a Safeway in Los Gatos for comestibles and water, then made my way to Sierra Azul Open Space Preserve. I started the hike around 11 am. The weather was lovely, sun was out, but cold especially in the mostly canopied trail. There were a few cars parked, although I did not encounter anyone on the trail. It took me 1 hour 55 minutes hike to the peak- a record for me as I am a famously slow hiker. The trail is in excellent condition and well maintained. I especially appreciated the mile markers in place. I spent an hour at the summit for photos and leisurely lunch. It was windy up there! I still didn’t encounter anyone on the descent. When I returned to the parking lot, mine was the only car left. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed the solitude and the wonderful experience.
