I traveled with 3 friends who are also part of the Peak Challenge. We left the Half Moon Bay Area around 7am Sunday morning. Beautiful, clear day. Heat was in stored for the day so we wanted to get out and up before the day became too hot. We parked at the Bald Mountain parking lot. The parking lot almost full, we scored on the last spot left! It was about 8:30am. The trail is well kept. The signs easy to interpret. Along the way, several other groups were hiking, running, biking up and down the trail. It seems to be a favorite spot and though a fairly new public area, quite popular. The bathrooms at the parking lots are clean, which is always nice. Just before the peak (tower) you can either climb up about 150 stairs of wind up the paved road. We climbed up the stairs. We encountered a lot of very healthy looking lizards. Towards the entrance, we spotted a bobcat which was super cool! We got to the top and rested in the shady structure. Nicely built, it included informative maps and benches as well as a great look out section–a beautiful view of the valley below. Overall, this was a great first Peak Challenge hike!
