We did it! Almost to the very last day, we completed the final peak of our Northern California Six-Pack of Peaks Challenge at Mount Umunhum yesterday.
Wet weather and schedule conflicts made it difficult but we made it happen.
Our easiest of the climbs, this 8 mile, ~1200 ft elev. venture was definitely one of our favorites. The cool (sometimes downright cold) misty temps and lush green hills were quite a contrast to our earlier hikes in the year (think back to Black Mountain when it got over 95 deg!) and the earth was dry as a bone.
“Enchanting”, “fairy-tale like”, “spectacular”. Just a few words to describe this trail and its amazing plant life and vistas. Being above a blanket of fog, most of the hike, made the views even more special. Almost disorienting, it was hard to know what exactly lay beneath us or out in the distance. A snowy peak here (“Is that Mt. Diablo? No! It's Mt Hamilton!”), A dark blue patch in the distance (Oh wow, that's the ocean!”). But that was perfectly ok. It made it feel like we were in a totally different part of the world.
