We hiked on a day that started out with beautiful fall weather and made it to the top before it changed. The hike is easy to Hermit Lake, steep but comfortable to the top of Tuckerman's Ravine, but the last 0.6 miles to the summit are a hard scramble across a boulder filed. No real path, just bouncing from rock to rock following cairns and paint markers. We started down the Lion Head trail, but as the weather looked uncertain and the option existed we decided to return to the summit and take the van down the auto road to get back to the trail head.
