WET! Out of all the days, we chose this one little Tuesday in May to hike our first peak. As we started to ascend I thought….”This shit just got real, real fast”! It rained the entire time we hiked, a little slippery in spots and very very cold. When we finally got to the top, I could not feel my fingers, toes or face. I felt a little delirious and wasn't really sure how we could finish this hike. I found a public bathroom and went in to find there was a heater on the ceiling that was radiating warm air. I just sat down and thought I'm never leaving this bathroom! Then the heater turned off and I was not happy to say the least. With all of that happening, Christina and I have the incredible fortune of a trail angel. Cristi Long drove up to the Observatory and met us at the top to provide a toasty car, and a pack of hand warmers, Gatorade, peanut butter and jelly sandwich and words of encouragement. I ate, changed my gloves, put on a dry shirt Cristi had with her and I was able to feel my face again. Cristi asked if we wanted to drive down in the car with her….of course I did!! However, I said if we didn't get out of the car right now and head down the mountain, we can't say we did this hike, so we got out of that warm car, Cristi pointed us in the right direction to head down the mountain and off we went. I actually cried when we got to the bottom and met back up with Cristi. She had hugs and champagne waiting for us. I was so damn happy and felt so accomplished and thought I will never hike this mountain again! Of course that's total BS!! I'm hooked!
