I Drove a good hour and half to get to this one! Got to the Trail Head around 630ish, and was able to use the facilities and stretch a bit before I started heading up. Finally at 707 am, I crossed the little fencing and officially started the hike.
It was very chilly, super overcasted, but the climbing and descents made me thankful that I didn't bring along my jacket. The views are amazing. And I practically had the trail all to myself.
I would say this trail has 4 different sections.
The first being the descent down to the actual Mt.Woodson trail. Super easy, but you know you'll hate it coming back down.
The 2nd part was the super steep climb. Just all uphill, with some flat(er) parts along the way. A good thigh burner. Thankfully it was overcast and cold, made the climb a little more bearable. You finally reach a relatively flat part and come across a little area with a couple tables where you can sit and enjoy a little break. Take advantage of it, cause the real climb is about to start.
The 3rd part was probably the hardest. About an mile and a half of a bunch a “stairs” and steps. A true butt burner. Some people caught up to me there, and the were PUSHING up.
Finally, you get to the last part. The last mile up. Its not too steep. But after the last part, your legs are all wobbly. Keep pushing tough! Cause you're almost there!
The summit was very anticlimactic. The potato chip rock is cool. Take a break. Catch your breath. Cause remember, the summit is only half way.
Over all, a great hike!
