GF and I hiked Mt. Wilson summit today. We arrived from Orange County at 5:50 and there were already people lined up to fish at Lake Poway. It was about 40 degrees when we started at 6:17am we used gloves to keep our hands warm. The trail was still dark so we used a small lantern attached to my GF pack to light our way for about 2o min until the sun started to rise. No obstructions or major obstacles were present on the trail, however no restroom facilities were open and trash cans were overflowing in a couple of areas :(. At about 8 am we started to see others hiking from the Mt. Wilson Rd side of the summit. We took our time and took quite a few rest stops since it had been a while since we’ve been out on the trails. There were a lot of areas with views to sit and take a break but the best views are at the summit. It was nice and clear so we were able to see the ocean from the top. We didn’t need the recommended 3 liters of water per person, but I can definitely see 3 liters being required in the summer months. Overall, great hike with nice views! It was a great way to start the New Year!
