Started the hike at 6am. I went up Devil’s Backbone (had it to myself). Travel is in great shape; no snow on the Backbone. Summit was spectacular (again, had it to myself for a good ten minutes; mid-week hikes are the best). Came down via Baldy Bowl/Ski Hut trail. There is still a fair amount of snow from this direction (just below the summit). Micro spikes were sufficient – but the trail was hard to find at a couple of places. Coming down from this direction is a killer (steep) – but so beautiful! First time up Baldy. Can’t wait to do it again. About 7.5 hours round trip.
