The openspace web page stated that the preserves open 30 minutes before sunrise. I got to Sierra Azulejo Parking Lot, on the corner of Mt Umunhum and Hicks Rd, at 5:30am. However, the gate to Mt Umunhum Rd including all parking lots are locked until 7am.
The trail is easy to moderate with a gradual incline. At 7am it was already warm, Most of the trail is covered with trees. Great view of the South Bay most of the way up, Only few bikers towards the end of my hike.
Love the hike. It took me 1hr and 20 mins one way.
