The hike was tough of course but mostly it just felt long. True to what people had told me to expect, I kept wondering ‘how many times am I going to go up and down… up and down?” It was especially a mental test to deal with the short sections of incline on the way back to the trailhead. The views up top were lovely, as was the trail there itself. I only wish I hadn't gone on the hike with the expectation that the trail led all the way to the big granite face of El Cajon. It sure would have been amazing to look over that and into the county below.
