The terrain of the trail itself is easy, but the incline really never stops and gets steeper in the last 2 miles to the Lookout. There was some shade in the morning for a few miles but very little on the way down.
Once you get to about 700 feet EG, the view doesn't change a whole lot. I found the views on the way down a bit better than going up. Someone was in the Lookout but I didn't bother them. A decent view of craters and lava field but nothing mind-blowing. Evidence of old fire damage. Frankly, did not find the 10 miles much worth the effort other than a moderate incline workout. Probably would not do it again.

Wow! I was hoping someone would do this hike and post. Thank you! I am considering this one. I just did Bill Williams yesterday and loved it. Kendrick Peak is my favorite. We did that one the week before. Still considering O’Leary. Maybe it’ll be better at the end of the month – cooler, more fall foliage?
Quite possible! There were some flowers here and there. Smell of pine throughout. If you’re used to hiking in the valley, the temp was a nice improvement but while I did start at 0700, the incline added to the heat. After 10 miles, was ready for a slurpee! Lol. Waiting a bit wouldn’t hurt.
