Well, if there is a will, there is a way! 😉 😉 With all of the trails leading up to Mount Wilson closed, I decided to hit the road “literally” and hike 5 miles up the paved Mount Wilson Red Box Road to the Mount Wilson summit. We'll call it an urban hike today, since the majority of it was on pavement which is never fun to hike on.
That said, we were not disappointed. We were rewarded with several awesome views, icy/snowy patches and ice formations on the rocks as we ascended. We, Jenny Huang and I, started off at about 0645 and made it to the summit (main gate) in just a few hours. About a half mile or so from the gate, we were joined by fellow SoCal Hikers Michelle Kelfer and her husband Josh. Since we were early, the gate was still closed. Opens at 10am and I thin we got there just after 9am.
So, we hopped on the Kenyon Devore Trail and followed it to the Mount Wilson Parking lot which added about 3/4 of a mile one way to our hike. After our summit photos, Jenny and I headed down while Michelle and Josh decided to walk around the Observatory area and Echo Rock.
Once again, another route and another great day of hiking.
