Woke to a chilly Bend morning. Both Crescent bypass and Hwy 58 roads were icy so took it slow. Drive was about 1.5 hours. Service road to the Trailhead was patchy snow with frozen potholes. Found the Trailhead sign nailed high on a tree to the right and very small vehicle parking area on left. Look carefully otherwise you’ll miss it. Trail was covered in light snow at the beginning so my feet were chilly in just my Altra’s but glad I brought my hard shell jacket and pants. Trail was a piece of cake for the first two miles but don’t let that fool you. The next four were a grueling uphill climb in the snow which gradually became deeper.
And so many false alarms! You think you’ve summited but it’s deceiving since there’s no views to orient yourself. After 3 solid hours I finally summited and was treated to blue skies and panoramic views of the mountains and Odell lakes.
2.5 hrs back and I had the whole trail to myself! (Who else would be this crazy?)
I did it! Six peaks accomplished!
