I started my hike at 11:30 AM with my dog Jack. It was a very nice and sunny day. The temperature could not have been nicer. I was surprised to see three other cars at the trail head. I hiked 3.5 mile and came to a parking area for the Black Butte summit hike. At this point I was contemplating going back and not going to the top. The first reason was there where a lot of people and dogs going up and coming down. The second reason was the first section was all up hill and I was very tired. I had something to eat and figured I could make it the rest of the way, because it was ONLY another one and a half mile. Not far after starting I realized I had underestimated how steep the climb would be. Which would have been not problem if my legs where not already shot from hiking the first 3.5 miles. Near the top there was some snow which was not much of a problem as long as I watched where I was stepping. There were a lot of post holes made by others. The view at the top was amazing. You could see all the snow covered mountains very well. One of the thing I love about hiking is the hike does not let you quit. Once you start you cannot give up until you are back at your car. I am very sore but regret nothing. I just need to hike more.
