Beautiful day on Mt. Tam! Made the summit with my ten year old and my family in from CO. We chose the Pantoll Ranger Station start so that my son could make the distance. It was beautiful at the start and a nice ascent. We used the Rock Spring trail to the West Point Inn and then up the Rail Road Grade to the East Peak Summit. We came down the Upper Fern Trail to the Matt Davis Trail and returned to Pantoll. The weather was perfect with clear skies on the summit. Heavy fog rolled in on the descent. We had variable distances on our watches/phones/maps, but time on our feet says a healthy 10-12 miles. The hummingbirds at the West Point Inn were delightful and the views were spectacular around every turn. Definitely a fan favorite at our house! Cheerful and helpful Ranger at Pantoll made me want to make sure to return this winter to do the “Pantoll Quad.” Off to Diablo in October to complete the six pack!

This was my second hike of the challenge. I didn’t have a chance to enjoy the view from.the summit due to the coastal fog. But it was a nice long hike. I have one more peak to complete the challenge, Mount Rose. I don’t know if I can do that in a day so I thinking backpacking it for two days. I’m looking for partners.
