It was a glorious day in the 60s while the sun was out when I hiked up Black Mountain. I’m not used to chilly weather so I settled for a warmer vest that day. When I planned for this hike, there were three trails I had in mind. On the day of the hike, I settled on the loop trail that originated at the Monte Bello Open Space Preserve parking lot. There is ample parking and restrooms are available. Cyclists greeted me as I began my hike. On the trail, I was immediately captivated by the meandering hills. Long blades of golden grass bowed in the same direction of the blowing wind. The side of the loop that passes the camp is mostly exposed. The leafless trees along that path reflect the season; rich, lush, leafy trees in the forested parts of the trail on the other side of the loop tell a different story. To me it felt time is suspended in the woods.
No cloud was in sight that day. Mount Diablo taunted from afar.
