I love doing the Central Coast challenge because it’s taking me to places that I’ve never hiked before. Toilets at the campground. This trail was a nice surprise. Hike started with views of the ocean and reached the mountain top at 1649’ with gorgeous views. The day started with overcast clouds and low fog but the temps were mild. When I reached Oats Peak the fog started to burn off a bit and I could finally see the view of the mountains. The trail is exposed until you get about 4 miles in and then you’re under some shade under the trees for about a half mile. Then it becomes exposed again until you reach the peak. When you get to the shaded area there is poison oak along the trail, some even directly on it. The stats – 11.71mi, 2554’ elevation gain, 5hr 20min with breaks, brought 2.5L water (drank 1.5L), 17oz electrolytes, Italian sub sandwich, various salty and sweet snacks. Happy Trails!
